Baba's Significance in the novel

Baba's role is to portray unchangedness in the novel. It is observed that as evrything else in the novel changes Baba and Bim remains unchanged. From some instances it is seen that Baba was the reason for Bim's reluctancy to change for she felt obligated to stay and take care of him while the others left.
Baba was the family's last child and the sick child. he was mentally disabled and required the most attention. Because of these qualities his aunt Mira came to help out with him. During this time she thought him how to use his hands among other things. No matter what new item he was given he ceased to throw away or give up the old to use the new.
Baba was Bim's excuse not to change or see a new side of life for she saw him as her responsibility. Bim used this as an excuse not to get married, not to move, not to explore and just to stay bent in her ways.
Baba's significance is to represent things that are not changed like Old Dehli and the Rose Walk. He represents the Life that the Others left behind and will never cease to forget. He is the symbol that will always help their family to remember their past.
In conclusion The Dramatic Significance of Baba is to be a symbol of unchangedness.
